What is a “Crib” around a bear bait barrel

>>THE CRIB<

A crib around the barrel is a pile or stack of stick, logs brush, etc that forces the bears around the front side of the barrel.  Without a crib we have had several bears sit behind the barrel and reach around the barrel to grab food from the ground or inside the barrel, the crib will keep the bear from doing this.  it also helps protect the bait from small scavengers and birds which eat a lot of food when the bear is not around.

Place your barrel, treestand and crib wisely and you’ll get the quartering away or broadside shot you want.
